Precisely Women in Technology: Meet Ashima

At Precisely, we’re proud to champion gender equity and recognize the invaluable contributions women make across every level of our organization. That commitment lives through our Precisely Women in Technology (PWIT) network — a vibrant, supportive community where women can connect, grow, and thrive together. As the PWIT network continues to expand, so does our opportunity to spotlight the inspiring women driving change from within. Each month, we feature one of these remarkable voices to share their journey, challenges, and insights. Why did you choose to pursue a career in technology?
My father always hoped I’d become a doctor, but I wasn’t interested in medicine. However, my brother works in technology, and he inspired me to explore engineering.
I’ve always had a sharp eye for details. Even in everyday moments, I found myself spotting typos in messages or emails. That instinct for finding mistakes led me to a career in QA, and that’s how I found my way into the world of technology.
Who has been your greatest professional mentor? What’s one thing you have learned from them?
I’ve been lucky to be part of many organizations and teams and as a result, have had several great mentors. Two people specifically stand out as the greatest mentors for me; one is my husband, who is always there to support me. He always cheers me on the loudest but also keeps me grounded with honest feedback. He motivates me to pursue my goals and aim higher in my career. The other mentor is my previous manager who has always been very encouraging and brought out the best in me.
What’s the biggest risk you took in your career? What was the reward?
Several years ago, I made the decision to resign from a role without another offer in hand, as the work was no longer fulfilling. It was a big risk, but it ultimately led me to Precisely, which I can confidently say is the reward. It’s been five years since I joined Precisely, and I’ve been consistently growing and thriving since.

As a woman, what challenges have you faced in the technology industry? How have you overcome them?
Fortunately, I haven’t faced any major challenges as a woman in the tech industry. Of course, there will always be comments or assumptions — but that’s something women experience across many fields.
I’m grateful to have a supportive family, which has made it much easier to maintain a healthy work-life balance and stay focused on my career growth.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I’ve received is: “always be open to receive feedback from your peers, managers, family, friends, or any other person. Use their feedback to grow and improve on a personal and professional level.”
What’s one piece of advice you’d offer to younger women entering the industry?
I always advise the younger generation to believe in their voice, even when it’s the quietest in the room. Be confident, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and advocate for yourself. Stay curious and never stop learning.
As a successful woman in technology, what’s one thing you do to pay it forward and advocate for other women in the field?
I actively mentor and support women in tech by sharing my experiences, offering guidance and support, and creating a safe space where they feel heard and empowered. I always encourage women to learn new skills and participate in multiple activities that give them hands-on experience.
