Why did you choose to pursue a career in technology?
I’ve enjoyed problem-solving ever since I was a kid. When I was growing up and in school, revolutionary changes were starting to happen in computer science, and its impact on society was increasing every single day. I wanted to learn more about it, so, during my summer vacation I joined a computer programming course, and it was there that I got to know the basic principles of software and programming languages.
From there, I started practicing coding and found it very compelling. It was clear that I was interested in technology, so I decided to study computer science and pursue a career in technology.
Who has been your greatest professional mentor? What’s one thing you have learned from them?
I’ve been fortunate to work with several industry experts, each of which I’ve learned a lot from. One of my greatest professional mentors was my former manager; he was an exceptional leader and mentor who played a significant role in shaping my career. He demonstrated how to clearly articulate ideas, actively listen, and provide constructive solutions. He has always been very encouraging and brought out the best in me. His guidance taught me how to believe in myself.
What’s the biggest risk you took in your career? What was the reward?
Earlier in my career, I faced the decision about whether or not to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I had been working within a specific domain for about a decade, but I wanted to learn and explore other domains. So, I applied for a new job internally and joined a different line of business. Initially, it was difficult but within a short period of time and dedicated learning, I was up and running. This decision helped me to work with multiple teams and learn new engineering practices, technical skills, and has enhanced my skills around multiple product lines. If it weren’t for stepping outside of my comfort zone, I wouldn’t have developed these new skills and grown my career.
