The Other Part of SMS: Storage Management Subsystem Definitions

System Managed Storage, as implemented by IBM’s DFSMS subsystem, is a large, complex, and critical part of z/OS. It includes the SMS constructs – data class, storage class, management class, and storage group, as well as the Automatic Class Selection (ACS) routines to assign the constructs. But there is another, lesser-known ‘component’ of z/OS that profoundly influences the characteristics of datasets, the selection of volumes, and much more – the IGDSMSxx member of SYS1.PARMLIB.

In this webinar, we discuss the function of IGDSMSxx, and which of its dozens of parameters are most important as well as which ones are obsolete or can be ignored.
