CASS™ Cycle O Product Upgrade Information

Important Update

The final delivery of CASS Cycle N compatible data from Precisely will be the December update. The Cycle N data will expire after 3 months. Beginning January 2024, only CASS Cycle O compatible data will be available. Clients must be running software that is updated for CASS Cycle O. Please contact Precisely Support if you have questions about available version or CASS Cycle O changes.

The USPS granted Cycle N extensions for some clients and some products through December 31, 2023. Precisely is not able to grant extensions beyond this date. Please contact the USPS if you have concerns regarding your ability to generate CASS Cycle O certified mailings in 2024.

Overview

The USPS has been a reliable source for addresses and postal codes for decades. The Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS™) certification process was designed by the USPS with the mailing industry to improve the accuracy of postal codes and carrier route codes that appear on mail pieces. To access its benefits, the CASS™ certification is available to all software developers, mailers, and service bureaus who wish to evaluate the quality of their address matching software. Any mailing claimed at an automation price must be produced from address lists properly matched and coded with CASS-certified address matching methods.

In October 2021, the USPS announced it would be updating its address verification process through a new implementation of what is being called CASS Cycle O, which will go into effect on August 1, 2023.

Precisely accesses CASS™ certification for several products (listed below) to ensure compliant US address validation for customers. Customers of these products must upgrade their current version of Precisely software to the latest version no later than July 31st to take advantage of the CASS™ certification capabilities.

CASS Cycle O data may not be compatible with older product versions. Please see details below for your product. Previous CASS Cycle N data is not compatible with CASS Cycle O software updates.

Why is this happening?

  • The USPS is requiring all CASS products to implement changes per CASS Cycle O requirements. The implementation date of these changes is August 1, 2023.

How does this impact me?

  • If you are using a CASS certified product, you are impacted whether you use the product for CASS processing or not.
  • These products will require new data updates and software changes. For CODE-1 Plus, Finalist, Spectrum Global Addressing, and Spectrum Universal Addressing, you will need to apply the latest updates. Changes are specific for each product and are described in the release notes. You will find a link to the product documentation in each specific product area below.

What happens if I don’t upgrade?

  • For CODE-1 Plus, Finalist, Spectrum Global Addressing, and Spectrum Universal Addressing, upgrades are mandatory. If you do not upgrade, your product will not function with the data provided after August 1, 2023.
  • For GeoStan Geocoder, your product will continue to function, but not in CASS mode.
  • For Trillium Quality, your product will continue to work in CASS mode, but processed data will not be available for mailer discounts.

When do I need to complete the upgrade by?

  • Updates are required by July 31, 2023 to ensure your products are still working as expected on August 1, 2023. We recommend upgrading as soon as the updates are available.

  • Release date: VeriMove 4.0 S02 is available.
  • This release is required for all VeriMove NCOA clients.
  • This release incorporates report changes required by the USPS in conjunction with CASS Cycle O.
  • Implementation of these changes go into effect on October 1 2023. Software will adjust the reports based on processing date.
  • VeriMove database v10.0.0 is required for software v4.0
  • DPV, LACSLink, SuiteLink, and Residential Delivery databases v13.0.0 are required for software v4.0
  • Older database versions will not function with software v4.0
  • Older software versions will not function with the v10.0.0 database
  • Previous versions of VeriMove will not be updated to include these CASS Cycle O requirements.
